Professor Coumba Toure Kane (IRESSEF, Senegal)
Professor N. Coumba Touré Kane is a PharmD, PhD, Professor in Microbiology and Bacteriology Virology at Dakar University. She is the Scientific Director and lead of the Molecular Biology platform at the Institut de Recherche en Santé, de Surveillance Epidémiologique et de Formation (IRESSEF) She is the head of Bacteriology-Virology Laboratory of Dalal Jamm University Teaching Hospital in Dakar. Her research interests include the molecular epidemiology, physiopathology and Drug Resistance of HIV and many other infectious diseases agents. In the health field she supported the implementation of alternative tools for the virologic monitoring of HIV infected patients including the DBS (Dried Blood Spot) for Viral Load and Genotyping assays. She has contributed to the documentation of molecular epidemiology of HIV in several countries of the African AIDS Research Network. She also contributed to the scaling up access to Viral Load and EID (Early Infant Diagnosis) in many countries. With CDC Atlanta she leads the EID and VL PT panel production and management for many Pepfar Countries in Africa. She is involved in many research projects on preventive and therapeutic strategies on HIV, Bacterial Resistance and other virus-induced Cancers. Professor Toure Kane translates lessons learned in the HIV field to the management of Hepatitis B and C. She has authored or co-authored more than 150 papers published in international peer-reviewed journals and she is also a member of several scientific boards.
Professor Souleymane Mboup (IRESSEF, Senegal)
Professor Souleymane Mboup (Pharm D, PhD) studied at Cheikh Anta Diop university in Dakar and the University of Tour in France. As former student at the Senegalese Military Health Training Academy, he also holds the title of Colonel in the Senegalese armed forces. His career spans more than 30 years dedicated to HIV-related research and lecturing at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar and partner universities across the world. Owing to his passion for collaborative research, he and a research team discovered HIV 2 virus. He held several high profile positions and was also member of several scientific societies in Senegal and in the world. Author of more than 200 publications and 18 books, he has also been acting as International Projects Review Expert and Principal Investigator in several research projects. His experience, knowledge and availability, have credited him with several Awards and Honors such as: 1st Award of the African AIDS Society (SAA), Dakar 1991, Arthur Houghton Jr. Star Crystal Award (African American Institute) November 2, 1994, United Nations (New York), 1st Award of the French National Academy of Pharmacy for “Francophone Pharmacy “(Paris, December 6th,2000), Award El fasi (Francophone Universities), Louvain La Neuve, Belgium, 2004 among others…To perpetuate his expertise and know-how, Professor Mboup has initiated the construction of “Institut de Recherche en Santé, de Surveillance Epidémiologique et de Formations” (IRESSEF), which was officially launched by His Excellency Macky Sall, President of Senegal on June 19th 2017. The new institute will provide a modern platform to promote high quality research and training in Africa.
